Fort Wayne’s junior hockey team is kicking off an 11-game homestand this weekend.

The Fort Wayne Spacemen of the US Premier Hockey League open a three-game series against Decatur Illinois tonight (1/17/20) at 7:30 pm at the SportOne/Parkview IceHouse.

Coach Kaleigh Schrock says his team is looking forward to spending the rest of their inaugural season at home:

“We’ve played a lot of road games, we’ve gotten the showcases out of the way. We’re set up nicely to finish up the year at home and get on a little run before the playoffs start. We’re definitely looking forward to it.”

The regular season ends on February 23rd, and for some on the roster, that means there’s a dwindling window to catch the eyes of college scouts. Schrock says several players have sparked attention, however:

Jared Fisher is the league-leading scorer, I think he’s up by about 15 points,” Schrock says. “He’s had a lot of looks from different schools. Trey Huffman just got into Purdue Northwest… he’s a kid that was dealing with some things in the past, but he’s done a great job at just buying in to become a young adult and understanding that there are more important things in the world than being a hockey player. He’s going to pursue a degree next year… he’s a kid that I’m probably the proudest of on our squad, to see how far he’s come and how he’s matured.”

Tickets for each game are $7. The Spacemen (11-19-3) currently rank 4th in their division.
